Rentech heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs) are used in power plants around the world! Designed to recover the heat from gas turbines, our units are used to generate steam to drive steam turbines (combined cycle) or for other plant processes (co-generation).
Rentech has a full line of custom-designed HRSGs to meet your specific needs.
Cross Flow Two-Drum HRSG
- Typical applications include turbine sizes from 2 to 35 MWe
- Steam capacities from 10,000 to 300,000+ lbs/hr (4,500 kg/hr to 137,000+ kg/hr)
- Saturated or superheated steam
- Pressures from 200 to 1,500+ PSI (14 bar to 105+ bar)
Elevated Steam Drum Option
In situations with shipping constraints or high steam load fluctuations, the Rentech cross flow HRSG can be designed with an elevated steam drum. This modification allows for smaller shipping sections or for a much larger steam drum than would be practical to have integrated into the convection section.
Duct Burner option
If more steam flow is required than what can be produced via the turbine exhaust gas (TEG), the Rentech cross flow HRSG can be designed with supplemental firing from a duct burner. Rentech duct burners can fire a wide range of gaseous and liquid fuels. Some typical fuels fired in Rentech duct burners include:
- Natural Gas
- Hydrogen
- Low-Sulfur Diesel
- Bio-Diesel
- Landfill Gas
- Refinery Off Gasses
Fresh Air Firing Option
Rentech’s engineers can design a system that will allow the duct burner to be fired and the system to produce steam even when the turbine is offline. This operational mode is known as fresh air firing.Cross flow boilers with an integral firing transition can produce flue gas temperatures up to 1,600 degrees F. For applications that require higher firing temperatures, Rentech offers HRSGs with water cooled furnaces,
Rentech’s water cooled furnace design utilizes our membrane wall construction. This proven design concept can be applied to both saturated and superheated steam applications. All superheater designs are convective type allowing for easier and more reliable operation of your HRSG system.
WATER-COOLED FURNACE HRSG
- Typical applications include turbine sizes from 2 to 25 MWe
- Steam capacities from 10,000 to +400,000 lb/hr (4,500 to 180,000+ kg/hr)
- Saturated or superheated steam
- Pressures from 200 to 1,500+ PSI (14 bar to 105+ bar)
Duct Burner option
If a customer’s required steam capacity is higher than what can be produced from the turbine exhaust gas (TEG) alone, the Rentech water cooled HRSG can be designed with supplemental firing from a duct burner.
Rentech duct burners can fire a wide range of gaseous and liquid fuels. Some typical fuels fired in Rentech duct burners include:
- Natural Gas
- Hydrogen
- Low-Sulfur Diesel

Modular HRSGs
For projects with space limitations or shipping constraints, Rentech’s team of engineers can design a modular system that includes large shop-fabricated sections that are quickly and easily assembled in the field.
Custom designs can include an elevated steam drum, or systems designed for a vertical up-flow or down-flow gas stream. Modular systems include the necessary riser, downcomer, and steam piping to make your modular HRSG complete. Modular designs are available for both cross flow and water cooled furnace designs and includes options for supplemental duct burner fired and fresh air fired units.
