RENTECH Boiler Systems was contracted to rebuild a 1990 vintage ABCO watertube boiler equipped with headered membrane water walls. The boiler had suffered major tube failures from a malfunction of boiler combustion controls. The boiler drums were checked for credibility by NDE and then retubed. Also the superheater was rebuilt and installed reusing the existing headers. The burner was reinstalled with the original burner cone. The boiler, with new insulation and lagging, was hydro-tested according to NBIC standards, and then the unit was shipped back to the customer for installation by a Rhodia contractor.
